Tappecue Review: Perfect Grill Thermometer?
The Tappecue was invented by Innovating Solutions, which has its roots in Kansas City. It’s no wonder the product has so much to offer, as KC is possibly the BBQ capital of the world.
The Tappecue is a favorite among amateur and professional barbecuers, and there are many reasons why. It’s an innovative product that allows you to monitor the cooking temperature via Wifi on a remote server. If you have concerns with range and proximity to your smoker then this is truly the best option. Basically, if you have access to the internet, you have access to your smoker.
Let’s break down why this is one of the best wifi thermometers and why it gets so much praise.
Once you’ve signed up you need to download the Tappecue app on your device (cell phone, ipad, etc). Once downloaded, you sign in with the email used to sign-up above. You can then start adding sessions, select your probe, your cook, and the temperature ranges. Once done you can check the probe temperatures conveniently from your phone.
Features of the Tappecue
The most attractive feature of this device is the range of the thermometer. If you need a device that you are able to completely leave your smoker for then this may be your only option. Rather than working through bluetooth, the device communicates with your internet to the Tappecue server. You can then access your temperatures easily through the app.
With that said, the device has its own drawbacks and luckily they were addressed by Tappecue. One of the potential problems was what if the company no longer exists, then you are left with a black box and 4 probes and no way of taking temperatures. Tappecue now has an offline mode they introduced about a year ago as well as a help document to install the firmware. In the offline mode, the Wifi range is 180ft from the device.
The four probes are capable of reading temperatures from 0 to 572 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature readings are quite accurate as well, which is the main purpose of a thermometer.
The Tappecue also uses rechargeable batteries capable of lasting up to 12 hours. In case you aren’t a fan of batteries they also include an AC adapter for unlimited power.
Setting up the Tappecue
Overall this is a solid smart device. From humble beginnings, the Tappecue has truly expanded and has grown into so much more. The device used to feel like a Kickstarter style product and now truly feels like one of the best thermometers on the market. You get extensive range, four probes with accurate temperature control, an app, and the ability to go offline with a 180 ft. reach. Even better is that the team behind Tappecue seems to constantly innovate and improve the device. Way to go Tappecue.
