The 5 Best Griddles of 2017
My wife gave me a nice LECTURE the other night. I totally deserved it! My brand new griddle backstabbed me. I hustled and fiddled a lot with this new product, but it disappointed me again and again. As a seasoned grill master, my ass (reputation) was on the line and without the griddle working, I was a doomed for a crap treatment. After all, I was responsible for ruining my family’s outing. With no food stalls nearby, they literally had some meager leftovers for dinner. Somehow, the planets had aligned in such a way that nothing really worked on that camping trip of ours.
For the most part, my half-arsed research was the real reason behind the self-defeating night. I thought I had the right accessories for our outdoor venture. Alas, it was such a flop thought. I literally felt like a 15-year-old making the same mistake I committed years ago when I was a novice in the world of Internet. This thought alone made things worse in my head, despite the fact that things are back to normal now. Whether you are an adventurous person or not, if you need the best griddle, let me assure you that you have landed at the right spot.
You may have pretty much understood by now, why I must have gone to any lengths or expense to hunt down the best griddle in the market. After returning from the trip, I scoured the Internet like crazy and found some of the best products out there. Believe it or not, it seemed like a task from hell. However, this was a great problem to have since I won’t be disappointing myself again down the road. Anyways, here’s a quick run-down of my blood, sweat, and tears.
|Pros||Highly durable. Strong Construction.||Another solid build. Generous warranty.||Portable and affordable.||Solid durability. Stainless steel.||Compact and lightweight. Perfect for camping.|
|Cons||On the expensive side.||Drainage system a little shaky.||Would not recommend to use in bad weather. Not sure how sturdy it is against strong winds.||Assembly is somewhat of a hassle. Overall not bad.||Smaller grilling surface sacrificed for portability. Still a solid grill.|

Best Griddle of 2017!
Without, further delay, let’s check out our top 5 list of the best griddles of 2017:
If you love simplicity, you will love this product. It’s a mid-range product that accomplishes the task it’s assigned to do. Simply throw the meat or salmon on the grill, flip them for a few minutes, and rinse and repeat. Bingo!
It’s easy to assemble. All you might need is a screwdriver and a bit of a helping hand. Moreover, the electric ignition ensures a smooth start up. Forget the old days of kerosene and charcoal, gas grills and smokers make awesome effective means for grillin’. The simple push button takes care of all the noise. You can simply focus on cooking your favorite dish.
I am not a gym rat like my wife. I hardly lift anything heavier than my wallet. Fortunately, portability is not really an issue with this product. The top of the griddle is removable, and you can fold the legs as well. Plus, it’s fitted with industrial strength caster wheels so moving it around was a breeze even for a skinny person like me.
Well, we have scratched the surface enough to get to the meat of the matter. I will tell you exactly how the product served me during its time of use in my kitchen.
As far as the cooking goes, the 36” Blackstone griddle left me impressed. It cooked everything evenly and quickly. I liked the fact that it retained most of the flavor and juices of the food, yet offering me the crispy bit whenever preferred.
The four stainless steel burners gave me enough versatility to flex my cooking muscles. Once I had quite a few visitors at my place, and this griddle had my back covered. I put all 4 cooking zones to test, and they didn’t let me down. I was cooking meat, brown rice, burgers, and pancakes at the same time like a superwoman.
Literally, I have dealt with products that looked like a pile of garbage once I was done with the cooking. But, not this piece of equipment. Cleaning this griddle proved to be an easy affair for me. I wouldn’t say that the grease drained off as it should in the perfect world, but it was not bothersome either. The built in grease channel does a pretty good job at drawing off excess grease.
I didn’t treat the 36” Blackstone griddle like crap, but it was abused a little bit while we were shifting. Of course, I used it extensively for cooking as well. So, I can pretty much state that the product is highly durable. It has a nice frame, sturdy construction, and proper coating for longevity.
The product quality is simply unmatched for its price point. Because it’s made of cast iron, it requires some TLC. With a little degree of care, I am optimistic that the product could be your loyal kitchen or outdoor companion for years.
Be willing to spend some extra dollars if you choose to bring home this griddle. You will probably need a grease scraper, griddle cleaning tool or a griddle spatula to keep the griddle properly maintained at all times. It won’t cost a lot, but it’s worth mentioning over here. Of course, these are optional accessories and not must-have items.
Another hiccup that I had with 36” Blackstone griddle is that it has gaps on the sides. So, if you are cooking outdoors and the wind is blowing like a boss, the gaps can allow the entry of the wind, which could lead to uneven cooking temperature.
Blackstone Outdoor Gas Grill Griddle Station
Our Rating: (4.3/5)
|Cooking Area||720 sq/in|
A more modern griddle with stainless steel construction, this product is basically the stainless steel version of Blackstone 36in Griddle (reviewed above). Hold on! This one comes with a higher price tag primarily because of its stainless steel construction. As you may know, iron tends to rust. So, it will require a greater degree of upkeep as compared to this stainless steel product. Let’s see how it performs on the cooking front.
Just like Blackstone 36in Griddle, you will love the fact that it gives you the versatility to cook just about anything from eggs, salmon, to veggies. The electric ignition allows convenient start up.
Despite being a large unit, it can be assembled quickly because the unit arrives mostly assembled. I NEVER read the boring manual that comes with the product, but I was able to do the job on my own. Honestly speaking, it didn’t prove to be a challenging route for me.
Ok, it’s time to get under the hood and see how well it served me.
Fitted with four 15,000 BTU burners, I never had problems anytime I was up for serious cooking. I really liked the large cooking surface (720 square inch cooking area) and the high-temperature abilities of this product. Oh, I almost missed this! All the 4 burners can be independently controlled. I am sure it must have saved us some gas money too.
Was it easy to clean? The answer would be a yes and a no. When I overloaded the griddle with greasy foods, the grease drainage system pretty much got clogged. As a result, it leaked. On other days, I had no problems.
Thanks to the sturdy wheels, it’s portable as well. Just fold the legs, remove the griddle top, and carry it on the go!
The company backs Blackstone 36 inch Stainless Steel Outdoor griddle with a generous 90-day warranty.
Nothing sticks, and nothing burns. Our roof is still intact. Everyone in our house is happy, including our landlord. I have cooked large meals outside on this one, and it proved to be a fun affair too.
It throws out a lot of heat on hot sunny days. I pretty much felt toasted as I was involved in extensive cooking on a hot summer. Not a big deal though! In fact, it can prove to be a great perk in winter seasons.
I found the drainage system a bit problematic with this product. I think it’s somewhat poorly designed. Other than that, the product has its share of merits.
Blackstone Grill + Griddle Tailgater
Our Rating: (4.0/5)
|Cooking Area||512 sq/in|
Well, this one is labeled to be a perfect all-purpose outdoor cooking unit? Does it really stand tall on its claim? Well, stay glued because I have the answer for you. I did some heavy-duty cooking on the Blackstone Tailgater, so I know exactly how it performs when you fire it up. Let me give you an overview of the product first.
It comes with two-large sized independently controlled burners with electronic ignition, which eliminates the use of charcoal or any other gas to fire up. The total burner capacity is 35,000 BTU. Don’t be thrown off by gas either, I’m not a person who takes a side on charcoal grills being better than their propane and gas counterparts. Although will say, it does save the hassle of trying to light your charcoal.
It arrives in a complete set. You will receive the burner, grill box, and the griddle. So, you can cook in a variety of ways without reaching out to your wallet for additional cooking accessories.
The Blackstone Tailgater also has independently adjustable legs, which enables one to have even cooking surface on rough terrains as well.
Wondering how this baby performed when it was fired up? We will get there in a while.
First up, assembling the burner was not a pain in the ass. In my opinion, it’s hands down the easiest griddle to set up. You won’t need any setup tools at all. Moreover, I found it super easy to work with. Was the end result good?
Yes, what you get is an evenly roasted and tasty meal, no matter how you use the grill. I have cooked eggs, veggies, salmons, chicken, bacon, steak, hamburgers, pancakes, and pretty much anything you can think about. I also noticed that it took a tad bit less time for cooking than other products that I had used in the past.
I hate the cleaning chore as much as most of you guys do. Fortunately, the grease runs into the cup perfectly fine. Other than that, I clean the exterior with paper towels and spray cleaner. So, cleaning this product has not been a hassle for me.
If you are someone like me who enjoys treating the guests while standing in front of the grill with a chilled beer in hand, this product won’t disappoint you. This baby gave me the magic moment that other products lacked. It made me grill me.
It’s portable and quite affordable too. Although it’s a big boy, the legs fold, so it can be easily shifted anywhere. It’s well made and built to last.
I do not recommend this product to be used in bad weather. Although durable and sturdy, I am pretty sure that thunderstorms or strong winds can take a toll on it.
A word of caution, When you are ready to unclip the grill box, make sure to grab it or else it could flip backward. I messed up once. Hopefully, you won’t!
Royal Gourmet Regal Gas Griddle
Our Rating: (4.7/5)
|Electronic Ignition System|
|Cooking Area||660 sq/in|
The RoyalGourmet Regal GB4000 4-Burner LP Gas Griddle is a versatile cooking tool that lets you whip out plenty of hamburgers, piles of salmon, or basket of potatoes. The generous 660 square inches cooking area combined with a total 52,000 BTU cooking power makes this possible. Let’s dig into the product features.
This cooking unit has four independently-controlled burners that can be set to high or low temperature depending on one’s preference.
It has a durable stainless steel body along with electronic ignition system, which we see in most of the modern griddle out there.
For easing moving, the griddle is fitted with 3 caster wheels. The nice inbuilt shelf offers sufficient storage space as well.
Compared to other products in the same spectrum, it comes with a higher capacity grease collection unit.
So, how did this cooking unit treat me? Let’s find out!
First and foremost, I liked the adjustable temperature dial. It gave me great control while cooking different varieties of food. Also, I found this unit nicely designed look-wise as compared to the competition.
It did what it was intended to do. Every time a food item kissed the griddle, it came out well. The heat distribution is very nice and even on this product. Hence, the superior results. That’s my best guess!
It has an adequate grease trap so there was no mess once I was done with the cooking. Just make sure that the funnel that leads to the grease trap does not get clogged with food particles.
The sturdy construction won’t buckle up under immense heat pressure. So, the product scores well on the durability standpoint too. It will last a long time if cared for properly.
The stainless steel ones generally enjoy a longer life span than the iron ones as they do a good job of heat retention and distribution.
If you need an expert to come at your doorsteps to assemble the product, you will need to shave off as much as $90 towards the assembling cost. Of course, there won’t be any hassles, no fumbling, or missing parts. But, you are better off without the local expert.
It took me a little over an hour to assemble it on my own. Not saying that the online service is bad, but this option backed by Amazon Happiness Guarantee does not come on a shoestring budget. I won’t say that this is a serious strike against the product because it’s an optional affair.
Blackstone Portable Camp Griddle
Our Rating: (4.7/5)
|Cooking Area||260 sq/in|

The product is nicely engineered for creating a storage space. By simply turning the griddle upside down, you will find easy storage space.
You will be able to enjoy mess free cooking with this griddle. A simple wipe with a paper towel can get the cleaning done.
My experience with the product has been seemingly good. It heated things pretty quickly. The adjustable temperature provided me the versatility to cook different things. I noticed that the high walls are elevated to contain the grease and the cooking food. Truth to be told, this was one of the most convenient griddles I had ever used.
I used the cooking unit mainly for cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, pancakes, fish, and steaks. I found the gas consumption surprisingly low. I was happy with the fact that it cooked foods evenly. Even my dog loved this unit. Basically, it heated fast and cooked well. I can already see this little boy making a lot of road trips with my family. I will say that I’m glad I tried this vs an electric type of grill as I have one for indoors and it wouldn’t be able to cook the above as nicely.
Its compact size and lightweight make it a portable product for everyday use and outdoor cooking. It folds up well, so it’s easy to carry it to the camping spot.
The Blackstone Portable Table Top Camp Griddle is backed by a one year warranty.
If you are used to a larger cooking area, you will find 260 square inches of cooking surface relatively less. Make no mistake, you can cook pretty much anything with this equipment, but it might take a while to get used to a smaller unit. Now, this is actually a subjective thing. I am just sharing my personal experience. That’s how I felt when I gravitated to this product after using some larger cooking units.
Well, we are nearing the end of our time together. Before we leave, let me round up this review. To be honest over here, I had a hard time picking the best cookie from the jar. As you can see, they all have their share of merits and demerits.
For the most part, I would say it would be a tie between Blackstone 36 inch Outdoor Flat Top Gas Grill Griddle Station and Blackstone 36 inch Stainless Steel Outdoor Cooking Gas Grill Griddle Station in terms of product features. However, Blackstone 36 inch Stainless Steel Outdoor Cooking Gas Grill Griddle Station cost a lot more.
The upside to this product is that it will require lesser upkeep and it will last longer. So, if you need these added benefits, go for the Blackstone 36 inch Stainless Steel Griddle. If you are on a budget, then you can simply opt for Blackstone 36 inch Outdoor Flat Top Gas Grill Griddle Station because it will save you as much two hundred dollars.
My personal favorite is The Blackstone Tailgater. It’s affordable, has stainless steel burners, functions well, and it’s durable as well. So, if you are fine with a 2 burner griddle as opposed to a 4 burner griddle, then you can go for this product without missing a heartbeat.
I also have equally good regards for RoyalGourmet Regal GB4000 4-Burner LP Gas Griddle. It does its intended job and provides me good cooking surface. But, the assembly part was a pain. Plus, it costs around $150 more than Blackstone Tailgater.
Finally, if you need something cheap, compact, and powerful without all the bells and whistles, go for Blackstone Portable Table Top Camp Griddle. For its price point, I would say that it’s a steal. It won’t disappoint you!
