The Best Stainless Steel Kitchen Prep Work Table

Sep 16, 2017 | Accessories

There never seems to be enough room in most kitchens for preparation. Having too little space means you’ll need to slow down, clean up, and use the space again – making the whole cooking process longer.

If this sounds like you, a quality stainless steel preparation table can be a really good investment. It gives you more room, can be moved about plus it’s stainless steel, so you can even use it for outside barbeques and cook outs making it a great bbq accessory.

Stainless steel preparation tables aren’t as expensive as you think either. We’ve taken 4 moderately priced tables available now that pack a punch, and reviewed them all.

Summary Tables

Best Kitchen Prep Tables of 2018

1. Trinity EcoStorage NSF Prep Table

Our Rating:  [usr 4.3] (4.3/5)
Material Stainless Steel
Dimensions 48″W x 24″D x 33.5″H
Capacity  150 lbs per shelf

A good table for those in a budget, the Trinity 48-inch table has a high weight capacity, adjustable feet levellers and in made from stainless steel.

It’s available in 24-inch and 48-inch versions too.

  • Stainless steel construction.
  • Available in 24 and 48-inch models.
  • Adjustable feet.
  • Second lower shelf.

In Use

There is some assembly required to get this table up and running. It’s not that bad, and only takes a single allen key to put it all together, which is provided.

Once put together, the whole ensemble is extremely strong. We can see how the weight limit is 150 pounds, as those legs and the table top are extremely rigid.

Another plus point, is that the lower shelf is completely adjustable. You can slide the lower shelf up as far as you want, although we wouldn’t push it much past the midway mark, as stability might be an issue.

The only real issue we have with this table, is the lack of wheels. As someone who just loves a good cook out, it’s a real shame I wouldn’t be able to wheel this table into my yard.

Pros: Well priced and unbelievably strong. Adjustable shelving sweetens the deal.

Cons: No wheels mean you’ll be stuck in one location with this table.

2. Gridmann Kitchen Prep & Work Table

Our Rating: [usr 4.1] (4.1/5)
Material Stainless Steel
NSF Certified
Dimensions 48 in Long x 24 in Deep

The Gridmann table, is a fully fledged commercial grade piece. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come in different sizes, yet it does come in the most popular size for chef’s kitchens, 48-inches x 24-inches.

This table comes part assembled, but doesn’t require a massive amount of work to put together. It’s mostly a case of attaching the legs.

  • Full commercial grade quality.
  • Stainless steel construction.
  • Feet levelling system.
  • Rounded edges for safety.
  • NSF Certified.

In Use

If the Trinity impressed us with its strength, then the Gridmann quite simply blew us away. As a commercial prep table, the Gridmann really is built to last. The stainless steel is incredibly thick, and quite heavy too.

As I mentioned before, assembly was easy and took about 15 minutes. Everything is provided, and the instructions are written in quality English.

The adjustable feet are a better version than the Trinity too, something to keep in mind if your kitchen floor is uneven. The shelving is adjustable too, just like the Trinity; however, all the same caveats regarding placing the shelves above midway height apply here too.

Another bonus point for the Gridmann, is the fact it’s designed not to trap small amounts of food anywhere. This is a table you can easily clean down after a day’s works and know 100% that there’s no nasties lurking inside.

Pros: Heavy gauge stainless steel and high quality adjustable feet make for a table that should last a lifetime.

Cons: It might just be a little heavy for those who need to move their tables around. Also, there are no wheels, this is a table designed to stay put!

3. Trinity EcoStorage

Our Rating: [usr 4.2] (4.2/5)
Dimensions 24 x 48 x 38.5 inches
Capacity 150 lbs per shelf
Material Stainless Steel

Here we have another Trinity Table, with the same level of build quality. This time around though, there’s a difference.

It’s got wheels!

We’re huge fans of prep tables with wheels, they make so much sense for home cooking, especially the ability to wheel your table out into the yard for an old-fashioned cook out.

  • 4-wheeled frame.
  • Stainless steel construction.
  • Feet levellers for uneven ground.
  • Full adjustable shelves.

In Use

We began to love the Trinity ECO Storage as soon as it trundled into our kitchen! Those swivel casters are amazing quality, and the two front one’s lock shut when you need them too. The build quality of the ECO Trinity apes that of the model we reviewed earlier, with the exact same 150-pound weight capacity.

The shelving is similar too, you can adjust the bottom shelf up and down, which is handy and enables you to make far more use of it.

We gave this table a slightly different trial to our other ones on test. We decided to use in on the weekend, having a barbeque in my garden – something I think this prep table will excel at.

During the cook, the first thing that worked out well, was the wheel size. Some prep tables have pathetic wheels, way too small to make their way over anything but the smoothest of surfaces! Thankfully, there was none of that here, and the little Trinity Table could make its way into the middle of my lawn.

Stability in outdoor surfaces wasn’t bad either. Those legs are adjustable, and if needed can be made shorter or longer to accommodate the rough ground. On a more negative point, only two wheels can be locked when prepping. I’d had preferred Trinity to make all four locking for extra safety; however, I’ve seen this before, and have a set of small wheel chocks perfect for locking the back wheels.

Pros: Cheap, well made and has wheels for transporting the table around.

Cons: Those wheels only lock at the back.

4. Gridmann Commercial Kitchen Prep Table

Our Rating: [usr 4.1] (4.1/5)
Dimensions Completely varies based on purchase
NSF Certified
Material Stainless Steel

Weirdly enough, our next review table is also a wheeled version, this time from Gridmann. There are a couple of interesting additions to this model though, including a huge variety of sizes available, plus the fact those wheels are designed to not damage wooden floors.

There’s still only two locking wheels available though, a real shame!

  • Stainless steel construction.
  • Heavy duty top.
  • Adjustable shelves.
  • 4 Caster wheels, 2 of them lockable.
  • Comes in a range of sizes.

In Use

We really wanted the Gridmann to be a true wheeled warrior; however, those wheels are too small for outdoor use – no dice! For the barbeque and grill enthusiast, there’s only one winner!

Even so, there’s much to like about the Gridmann. It’s available in a huge range of sizes, far more than any other table on our test. From 30-inches x 24-inches, right up to 72-inches x 24-inches, there’s a huge variety in-between for those who need something specific.

As with all the tables we reviewed, the Gridmann has adjustable shelves and feet for uneven surfaces, plus it has those Gridmann rounded corners for safety.

Sadly, the wheels are a bit too small for heavy duty outdoor work; however, they’ll work a treat indoors, and the wheel material is designed to be kind on wooden and laminate flooring.

Build quality is typically Gridmann, and although we don’t know the full weight capacity, we’re pretty sure it could easily cope with 150 – 200 pounds.

Pros: Gridmann build quality, wheels that are softer on wood surfaces and comes in a wide variety of sizes.

Cons: Those same wheel won’t cut it outdoors.

Round Up

There are 3 tables we really liked during this test, which one is right for you comes down to how you’ll be using the table.

For Outdoor Cooks – You’re probably gonna guess the table we like for this! The wheeled Trinity Eco Storage is king here, with chunky wheels that should just about go anywhere. It’s also built superbly and absolutely everything is adjustable. Our only problem is the lack of locking on all four wheels, you’ll want to invest in a small set of chocks for this prep table.

For Kitchen Table Use – If you just need a brilliant kitchen prep space without the ability to move around, then the Gridmann Kitchen prep table is for you. Unbeatable Gridmann build quality, adjustable non-marring feet and moveable shelves make it easy to use, whilst the low price sweetens the deal.

For a Moveable Kitchen Table – If you need a prep table that you can wheel around, then the Gridmann wheeled Eco Storage is a winner. Sure, it’s not suitable for outdoor life, yet its lighter wheels are perfect for wooden and laminate floors. Expect the exact same bulletproof quality as its non-wheeled cousin, and a price that’s not much higher.
